Our Temporary, New "Normal"

Dear White Pier Family,

White Pier Gifts is more than just a business.  It is a community of people who love giving and who love making a difference.  We wanted to take a minute and share some words from our hearts.  Spoiler alert...keep reading until the end.  We also share some ways to help your community, fun things to do at home and ideas for self-care at home.

The past few weeks have been…different.  From the new responsibilities (who knew we could be such great teachers?), changes to our schedules and anxiety that has come from this pandemic, I think we can all agree that things are not “normal”.

For both of us, we handle new challenges very similarly.  We take a moment to digest everything and then develop a plan of action.  To be totally honest, we also have a few moments of panic here and there.  After the initial shock of the fallout from this pandemic, we decided to focus our efforts on the positive!  After all, we are eternally the glass is half full type of girls!

We challenge you to do the same.  Take this pause in your normal routine to spend some time loving on your family.  From random movie nights to family game night, there are so many opportunities to spend time with each other that may not always be present with the hustle and bustle of “normal” life.

Please know…we care about you!  We care about your health.  We care about your family.  And, you have been in our thoughts and prayers.  We know that sounds cliche but we have literally prayed for the members of this community.  We wish you the best as we navigate these next weeks.  If there is any way that we can help, please reach out and let us know.

P.S.  Here are some ideas on how to make the most out of this new normal!

Ways To Help Your Community

Those who were most vulnerable before this pandemic will be even more so now.  In addition, the number of those needing help will only continue to rise.  Take a minute to figure out a way that you can help your community.  Choose organizations that align with your interests and mean the most to you.  We promise you...they need you now more than ever.  Need some help getting started?  Here are some ideas.

Give blood.  There is an ongoing critical need with the coronavirus outbreak.  Make an appointment with The Red Cross

Volunteer with a local charity.  Several organizations are utilizing virtual volunteers.  Contact organizations that you have helped in the past to see if there is a need that you can fill now.

Donate money.  In most cases, you can donate with a tap of a button on your phone.  Non-profits need your support!

Help stock a local food bank.  Get in touch with a local food bank to see what items are needed most.  You can also donate to organizations helping nationwide such as Feeding America's COVID-19 Response Fund.

Support your local businesses.  You have more than likely seen the recommendations such as order takeout, shop with them online and buy gift cards for future use.  Take a few moments and support a few local businesses!

Activities To Do At Home

Spending more time at home with your family can be a blessing but let's be honest.  After a while, you can get a little stir-crazy.  Here are some fun activities to do at home to mix things up!

Reach out to family & friends.  Try a family zoom call or google hangout.  Look for ways to stay connected!

Take family game night to the next level.  Make brackets with a prize for the winner.  Host a family talent show.  Have a nerf gun war.  Set up a backyard obstacle course.  Play minute to win it games.  The possibilities are endless!

Work a family project.  Choose a house project that benefits everyone and tackle it together.  Or, choose a project that you can work on at home and gift to an organization later.  Create a plan, divide up tasks, turn on some good music, and get working!

Self Care At Home

Let's be real a minute.  You have to take care of you before you can take care of everyone else.  Here are a few ways to treat yourself!

Read a good book

Take a hot bath

Practice daily gratitude with a gratitude journal

Go for a socially distant walk

Pick up a new hobby

Try ALL the face masks

Declutter

This is only a small sampling of ideas.  Head over to our Facebook or Instagram page and let us know how your family is staying sane!
